Low force friction welding is a new solid-state welding process that has been jointly developed by MTI and EWI. This is essentially a hybrid technology, combining friction welding with an external heat source.
The technology has been demonstrated with both resistance and induction based external heating sources. This combination of energies allows for a reduction in process forces required compared to traditional friction welding.
