Friction Stir Welder for Advanced Research, Education, & Process Development – Model GG-7

This video highlights the MTI Model GG-7 friction stir welding machine with a detailed performance demonstration, showing its ability to create a high-strength butt weld in 5 mm titanium using a robust bobbin weld in 25 mm aluminum. In each case, the FSW process uses a rotating pin tool to generate frictional heat, plasticize the material, and mechanically “stir” it together across the bond line without melting. The result? Solid-state joints with excellent mechanical properties. This makes the FSW machine suitable for advanced research, education, and process development.
