Dual Headed Friction Stir Weld

This video demonstrates MTI’s Dual-Headed Friction Stir Weld machine in action. It’s an advanced friction stir welding system equipped with dual upper and lower weld heads. With two weld heads, the FSW machine is designed for large-panel production and assemblies that require top- and bottom-side welding in a single setup. By welding both sides of an extrusion or panel simultaneously, this approach reduces cycle time, lowers labor costs, and increases throughput—making it ideal for high-volume manufacturing environments.

Friction stir welding uses a rotating pin tool to generate frictional heat and mechanically “stir” materials together across the bond line, creating strong, solid-state joints without melting the base metals.
