The Vertical Weld Tool (VWT) is a special and custom-purpose Friction Stir Welding machine built for NASA. This particular machine has been used to weld conical structures of the Launch Vehicle Stage Adapter (LVSA) which connects the SLS core stage to the Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage.
